MATERIAL & ASSEMBLY FIT
Resin vs Acrylic Beads for Beadable Pens: A Buyer's Guide
For wholesale beadable-pen projects, the useful comparison is not simply resin versus acrylic. Start with the exact design, the confirmed material and the way the component fits your pen hardware.
Quick answer: Choose the SKU and confirm its material, overall dimensions, bore diameter, hole direction and usable space on the pen rod. A 20 mm or 40 mm product size describes the outside of the component, not its hole. Neither a resin label nor an acrylic label guarantees fit or performance.

What the material label does, and does not, tell you
QULA lists the material supplied for each specific item. These catalog labels help buyers organize a range, but they are not complete chemical formulations or test reports. Do not identify material from a photograph alone or treat a glossy finish as proof of acrylic.
For example, YH077 faceted stars and YH078 crescent moons are listed as acrylic. YH075 dotted starfish are listed as resin. Their distinct shapes and finishes are product-specific, not a rule that all acrylic or resin beads share.
Do not assume one material category is always lighter, stronger, more scratch-resistant or more colorfast. Compare representative samples of the actual designs, agree the relevant test conditions and request product-specific evidence when performance matters to your project.
Published examples to compare
| Product | Catalog material | Catalog size | Sample question |
|---|---|---|---|
| YH077 faceted star | Acrylic | 23 mm | Does the face sit in the intended direction on your rod? |
| YH078 crescent moon | Acrylic | 38 x 47 mm | Is there enough clearance around the curved body? |
| YH075 dotted starfish | Resin | Approx. 40 mm | What are the actual bore direction and clearance? |
| YH061 quilted star | Acrylic | 20 mm | Does the straight hole fit your selected hardware? |
These are published catalog sizes, not a set of independently measured samples. Hole measurements are not specified for these four items. Confirm measurement direction and tolerances with the sample; do not copy a hole size from another SKU.
Check five parts of the assembly before ordering
- Rod and opening: provide the actual rod diameter and a photo or drawing. Ask for the component's bore measurement and direction, including any restrictions along the hole.
- Assembly length: check the complete combination of focal bead, spacers and other components against the pen's usable rod length.
- Orientation: verify which face points forward after assembly. A moon, star or other asymmetric shape may look different when rotated.
- Clearance and handling: check the component against the barrel, cap and neighboring pieces, and review how the completed pen feels in use.
- Repeatability: keep the approved SKU, color, sample and hardware reference together so a repeat order can be checked against the same specification.
A source photograph showing one piece on a rod is a useful reference, not proof of compatibility with every pen. A loose-piece photograph does not establish an unseen opening. Do not plan to force an unverified component onto hardware.
A pendant loop is not a bead bore
A top eye-pin or hanging loop is a different connection from a through-hole bead. For example, YZ119 resin bear pendants use a top-center attachment eye-pin. Their 11 x 22 mm catalog size does not make them a verified slide-on pen bead.
Similarly, the open center of YH074 hollow acrylic stars is not a confirmed pen-rod bore. Ask how the exact component will be mounted rather than assuming that every visible opening serves the same purpose.
What to send with a wholesale sample request
Include the SKU, material, selected colors, intended quantity, your pen hardware reference, required measurements and destination country with postal code. State whether you want loose stock components, a coordinated kit or a custom-development review. Pens and display props in catalog photos are not included unless expressly quoted.
Check the packing unit on each listing. Some products are sold by piece count and others by bag weight. Our bead packing guide explains how to compare those orders without assuming an unsupported piece count.
Buyer Questions
Is acrylic automatically better than resin for beadable pens?
No. Evaluate the actual design, documented material and physical sample against your hardware and intended use. The category name alone does not establish performance or fit.
Does a 23 mm star have a 23 mm hole?
No. The stated overall product size and the bore measurement are separate specifications. YH077 has a 23 mm catalog size; its hole diameter must be confirmed.
Can I order a custom version of an existing bead?
You can submit a design or color brief for feasibility review. Custom MOQ, samples, costs and timing are quoted separately from the stock listing.
Product examples and dimensions are drawn from the linked QULA catalog pages, checked on October 15, 2026. The fit checklist is a procurement recommendation, not a claim of completed testing.
Request samples for your pen project
Send your SKU or reference, quantity, destination and the requirements that matter to your project. Samples, availability, custom MOQ and timing are confirmed with the quotation.
